MORE ABOUT We Rock AVL

At We Rock Asheville, campers build confidence and create community with each other while writing music, learning about gear and the mechanics of sound, and participating in a range of empowering workshops and performances by local artists.

Campers will forms their own bands and spend the week writing an original song with their group. Each day campers will also get to attend workshops (including, but not limited to, Music Herstory, Zine-Making, Songwriting, Synths and Electronic Music, Self-Defense, Screenprinting, and more!), receive instrument on their chosen instrument, and attend performances and Q&A from local queer and women musicians.

Lunch and two snacks are provided to all campers daily.

Campers will learn:

  • to support each other and work collaboratively

  • songwriting skills, musical confidence, and instrument basics

  • to think about equity and how they might use music to shape the world they want to live in

  • to be in community with a diverse group of people, learning from others’ experiences

  • to find community with those who identify similarly and have had had common experiences

  • to be supported in taking creative risks, being vulnerable, and amplifying their voices

Does My Camper Need To Bring Equipment To Camp?

No, all equipment will be provided by the camp. No experience or equipment necessary.

However, if your camper has an instrument they'd like to bring to camp, they are more than welcome!

Who is eligible to attend camp?

Any youth age 8-15. We are a gender-affirming organization that centers queer youth and girls, but campers of all identities are welcome to apply. Campers do not need to have any prior musical experience to thrive at camp!

Youth ages 16-18 can apply as junior volunteers!

When & Where is Camp?

Late July, location to be announced. Registration will open March 1.

How much does it cost?

Our suggested enrollment fee for this one-week camp is $150 per participant. We Rock is proud to offer full and partial scholarships to families that request a reduced fee, no questions asked. Additionally, if your family can comfortably pay more than the suggested amount, your added donation allows us to sponsor more campers.

Your family's ability to pay will *not* affect your child's chance of admission to camp.

The We Rock is a nonprofit organization funded 100% by donations from our community. We are proud that, through this support, we are able to keep our programs accessible to low-income youths who may not have opportunities to go to summer camp otherwise.

Why the name change?

At the end of rock camp in 2025, our campers voted to change the name of the organization from Girls Rock Asheville to We Rock Asheville. This transition is an effort to continue our growth as a music organzation empowering youth of all genders, and is in alignment with many of our fellow member camps in the Girls Rock Camp Alliance. We are proud to honor this youth-led directive for change and are excited for our first camp ever as We Rock Asheville in 2026!
